GHRP-6
Also known as: GHRP6
The secretagogue known for the hunger — a ghrelin mimetic that produces genuinely difficult appetite, which makes it useful in a bulk and unusable in a cut.
Substance family
Growth hormone itself and the peptides that prompt the body to release it. Effects build over months rather than weeks, and reduced insulin sensitivity is what limits duration.

Cycle length
Cyclical, weeks to months

Side effect & countermeasure
Typical problems and what you can do to reduce harm — at a glance. Does not replace medical monitoring.
Problem
Hunger that is difficult to control
Countermeasure
This is the defining property, not a side effect to be managed away. In a deficit it is the wrong compound — GHRP-2 or ipamorelin do the same job on GH with far less of it.
Problem
Prolactin and cortisol rising
Problem
Blood glucose creeping up
Countermeasure
Shared by everything that raises growth hormone. Periodic fasting glucose and HbA1c, and breaks rather than continuous use.
Overview
GHRP-6 is the oldest of the widely used secretagogues and the one with the strongest reputation — not for growth hormone, but for appetite.
The hunger it produces is not subtle. It arrives within twenty minutes of injection and is frequently described as the most intense appetite people have experienced. That single property decides where it belongs and where it does not.
Mechanism of Action
It agonises the ghrelin receptor, which triggers a growth hormone pulse and suppresses somatostatin, the brake on that pulse.
Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. GHRP-6 mimics it more completely than the newer secretagogues do, and the appetite follows directly from the mechanism rather than being an incidental effect.
Where it fits, and where it does not
In a surplus, the hunger is the feature. For someone who struggles to eat enough — and that is a real and common problem — a compound that makes eating easy solves the actual limiting factor.
In a deficit, it is the wrong tool entirely. Adding intense hunger to a diet is a way to lose the diet. If growth hormone is the goal while cutting, GHRP-2 or ipamorelin produce a comparable pulse without it.
That choice — GHRP-6 for a bulk, something else for a cut — is most of what there is to say about picking between them.
Compared with the alternatives
| GH release | Appetite | Prolactin/cortisol | |
|---|---|---|---|
| GHRP-6 | moderate | very strong | moderate |
| GHRP-2 | stronger | mild | mild to moderate |
| Ipamorelin | moderate | minimal | minimal |
Ipamorelin is the selective one: it triggers the pulse with almost none of the other hormonal activity. It is the sensible default unless the hunger is specifically what you want.
Side Effects & Risks
- Intense appetite, starting within about twenty minutes
- Rising blood glucose and falling insulin sensitivity over time
- Prolactin and cortisol elevation, dose-dependent
- Water retention, tingling or numb hands
- Tiredness and flushing after administration
Blood Work & Monitoring
- IGF-1 — the practical measure of GH exposure
- Fasting glucose and HbA1c — the limit for this whole class
- Prolactin — if nipple sensitivity or libido changes appear
Harm-Reduction Notes
- Choose it deliberately for the appetite, or choose something else
- 100 mcg saturates the GH response; more raises the wrong hormones
- Fasted, or most of the pulse is lost to the meal
- Cycle it — the glucose effect accumulates quietly
- Research chemical status: purity and content are assumed, not verified
- Prohibited in tested sport at all times
Legal status by region
Regulation differs considerably between jurisdictions and changes over time. This is a rough orientation, not legal advice — check the rules that apply where you are.
