Overview

Omega-3 fatty acids (mainly EPA and DHA) are essential fats the body cannot produce in sufficient amounts. In the bodybuilding context they are dosed higher than a general health supplement — typically to support the lipid profile and blood pressure during anabolic use.

Mechanism of Action

EPA and DHA are incorporated into cell membranes and influence eicosanoid signaling, which underlies their anti-inflammatory effects. They also modestly lower triglycerides and can support cardiovascular markers — relevant because many anabolic substances shift lipids unfavorably.

Typical Context

On cycle, omega-3 is frequently combined with cardio and, where needed, citrus bergamot to keep blood lipids in check. It is also used for joint comfort during heavy training and for general recovery.

  • Occasional fishy aftertaste or mild digestive upset (reduced by taking with meals or using enteric-coated forms)
  • At very high doses, a mild blood-thinning effect is possible — relevant if combined with other blood thinners
