Trestolone (MENT)

Also known as: MENT, Trestolon, 7-alpha-methyl-19-nortestosterone, Trest, MENT Acetate

Extremely potent 19-nor compound originally developed as a male contraceptive — several times stronger than testosterone, with correspondingly severe aromatization and total suppression.

Substance family

19-nor derivatives

Testosterone missing the carbon at position 19. They carry progestogenic activity and raise prolactin, which is why nipple and libido symptoms here need prolactin measured rather than an aromatase inhibitor. Suppression outlasts most other classes.

Ester variants

Same active substance, same risk profile — only release rate and injection rhythm differ. The ester determines the timing, not the effect.

VariantHalf-lifeInjection interval
AcetateMENT AceThe most common form. Daily injection of very small volumes — dosing errors are easy to make at this scale.~1 dayDaily or every other day
EnanthateMENT EFewer injections, but side effects then persist correspondingly longer after stopping.~5–7 days2× / week

The ester also determines how long the substance stays active after the last injection — relevant when planning a recovery phase.

Dosing & protocols by goal

Rough orientation ranges as reported in harm-reduction literature — not an individual treatment plan. Doses are individual and open-ended; frequency depends on the ester or half-life.

Aromatization and blood pressure rise sharply. There is little practical experience and no safety data in this range.

Supraphysiological doses carry significant health risks and are not legal without a medical indication. This information serves education and harm reduction, not as a usage recommendation. Accompanying blood work and — where relevant — a post-cycle plan (PCT) are essential. See the disclaimer.

Side effect & countermeasure

Typical problems and what you can do to reduce harm — at a glance. Does not replace medical monitoring.

Problem

Very strong aromatization — considerably above testosterone

Countermeasure

MENT converts to a potent estrogen and does so more readily than testosterone. Water retention and gynecomastia risk are the leading problems. Measure estradiol early and repeatedly; anastrozole is usually required here rather than optional, and tamoxifen if breast tissue is already reacting.

Problem

Dosing errors from the unusual scale

Countermeasure

MENT is dosed in single-digit milligrams where testosterone uses hundreds. Anyone transferring a familiar dosing scheme overdoses by a factor of ten or more. Calculate the concentration of the product before the first injection.

Problem

Complete and rapid suppression of the axis

Countermeasure

Suppression is total — this was the intended effect in contraceptive research, not a side effect. A post-cycle plan is mandatory; use the PCT timeline and consider HCG during the cycle.

Problem

Markedly elevated blood pressure

Countermeasure

Driven by the strong water retention. Measure at home daily; control salt and water balance, keep cardio in the plan. Medically, telmisartan, amlodipine or lisinopril, and low-dose tadalafil.

Problem

Severe drop in HDL, rise in LDL

Countermeasure

Cardio, omega-3 and citrus bergamot as the base; with strongly deteriorated values, ezetimibe or pitavastatin under medical guidance. Measure a baseline before starting. If a statin is started, CoQ10 belongs alongside it — statins deplete it through the same pathway.

Problem

Elevated hematocrit

Countermeasure

Cardio and adequate hydration; donate blood if markedly elevated. Check hematocrit and hemoglobin regularly. Nattokinase supports fibrinolysis but does not lower the cell count — donation remains the measure that works.

Problem

No safety data and underground-lab quality only

Countermeasure

Human data exists only from contraceptive trials at far lower doses. Everything in circulation comes from underground laboratories — only sources with an independent analysis, and even then the dose-response at this potency is poorly characterised.

Overview

Trestolone, almost always called MENT, has an unusual origin. It was developed as a male contraceptive, and its defining property served exactly that purpose: it suppresses the body's own hormone axis completely while continuing to supply androgenic activity itself.

For the bodybuilding context this makes it one of the most potent substances available — reported as several times stronger than testosterone at the same weight. That potency is also its central practical risk, because dosing schemes from other compounds cannot be transferred to it.

Mechanism of Action

Trestolone is a 19-nortestosterone derivative with an additional methyl group at position 7. That modification protects it from breakdown by 5-alpha-reductase and increases binding to the androgen receptor considerably.

Two consequences follow. Its anabolic effect is disproportionately strong relative to the dose, which is why MENT is dosed in single-digit milligrams where testosterone is dosed in hundreds. And it aromatizes to a potent estrogen, more readily than testosterone does — water retention and gynecomastia risk are correspondingly pronounced and are the reason an aromatase inhibitor is practically mandatory here rather than optional.

Unlike other 19-nor compounds such as nandrolone or trenbolone, MENT provides androgenic activity of its own at a level that maintains normal function. This is precisely why it was interesting as a contraceptive: it shuts down the axis but does not leave the user androgen-deficient.

Typical Context

MENT is used in mass phases, over six to eight weeks, and is a substance for people with substantial experience — not because of tradition, but because the dosing scale is genuinely unforgiving. Ten to thirty milligrams a week is the reported range; someone who applies a testosterone-style dose here overshoots by more than a factor of ten.

The acetate ester requires daily injection of very small volumes, which is where the second practical risk lies: at this concentration, small measurement errors translate into large dose errors. Calculating the actual concentration of the product before the first injection is not a formality here.

There is essentially no long-term human safety data. What exists comes from contraceptive trials at doses far below those used in this context.

Side Effects & Risks

  • Very strong aromatization with water retention and gynecomastia risk
  • Complete and rapid suppression of the body's own testosterone production
  • Markedly elevated blood pressure
  • Severe drop in HDL, rise in LDL
  • Elevated hematocrit
  • Acne, oily skin
  • Dosing errors due to the unusual potency scale
  • No long-term safety data; underground-lab quality only

Blood Work & Monitoring

  • Estradiol (sensitive) — the key value here; measure early and repeatedly
  • Blood pressure — measured at home, daily
  • Lipid profile (LDL, HDL, triglycerides) — baseline, during and after
  • Hematocrit & hemoglobin
  • Total/free testosterone and LH — to assess the degree of suppression
  • Liver values (ALT, AST, GGT)

Harm-Reduction Notes

  • Calculate the product concentration before the first injection — the dosing scale differs from every other injectable
  • Do not transfer dosing schemes from testosterone or other 19-nor compounds
  • Plan estradiol management from the start; aromatization is stronger than with testosterone
  • Blood pressure is the practical limit — measure daily
  • A post-cycle plan is mandatory; suppression is total and rapid
  • Only sources with an independent analysis
  • Keep cycles short; there is no safety data supporting longer use
